Conservative and opposition MPs reacted in shock on Wednesday after the prime minister confirmed he had obtained permission from the Queen to prorogue parliament, limiting the time left for parliament to debate Brexit. The Commons Speaker John Bercow described it as a “constitutional outrage”.
