The first openly gay, Black person elected to the Colorado state legislature. She was first elected in 2016 and most recently re-elected for a fourth and final term to the Colorado State House of Representatives – representing House district eight. During the 2021 legislative session, Herod was appointed to the state’s coveted Joint Budget Committee. During the previous session, Herod was vice-chair of the Judiciary Committee. She’s now a mayoral candidate in Denver. The election is on April 4, 2023.
